November Update // What’s Happening?

Hey everyone! Time for a quick update on how everything is going.

WHERE WE ARE AT

Progress on opening Waystone 2.0 (Waystone Secundus or Waystone Primaris, as some of you have been saying) has stalled. Due to the nature of the permitting process we can do nothing with the new space, at this moment. We have been holding in this position for months now, and it is draining as hell. I don’t want to overburden you with the details, but the short of it is that The City needs the landlord to make sure the space is earthquake-proof before they will let us do any sort of buildout. The landlord has been figuring this out with the city, so Dustin and I have just been sitting here in deadlock and waiting.

What this means for our timeline, we honestly can’t say. They could approve our permitting this afternoon and we could get started on the physical work tomorrow. Alternatively, it could be another month before they get back to us. We’ve done everything we can to learn about what’s going on with this, and we both see through the system and know exactly what we need to do. We’ve done it, it’s done, and now we just wait.

(While writing this, Dustin and I received an email saying that the application is currently under review, so that’s a good sign!)

WAYSTONE’S CURRENT LOCATION

Rumors have been going around about when our current location will close. We were told the end of the year, then we were told December 15th. I pushed back on this, and the date was once again set to the end of the year.
This means we have to be gone before New Years Eve, and with Christmas and whatnot we’re not gonna be scheduling games while we move things out.
So our current location—this small place we’ve all grown to love—will be shutting its doors for the last time on Sunday, December 21st. We’re going to try and let people book games for as long as they can at the current space. Obviously this could shift around depending on how work at the new space goes.

The spiny, uncomfortable fact here is that it is looking less and less likely that we will have a clean transition between Waystones 1.0 and 2.0. I desperately wanted to switch between the two spaces without an interruption in service, but the sheer lack of time we are facing makes that look unlikely. This has proven emotionally stressful, as you are all paying for a club and a space that could be unavailable for who knows how long. Could be days, could be weeks, could be a month or more. I have been grappling with that thought. It haunts me. I’m brainstorming some fun things we could do in January if this comes to pass, so stay tuned.

In the interim, continue to book games as normal!

HOW DO I HELP?

Once approval is given to start the buildout, we will be needing much in the way of physical labor. We’ll need warriors who can help tear down walls, sorcerers who can help me install lighting, artisans to paint surfaces, and grunts to help move everything.

Because we don’t know when this will be, we’re not taking names or scheduling anything yet. But as soon as we can move forward, we’ll be reaching out. Keep an eye on the Discord server and look out for announcements.

ARE YOU OKAY?

Kind of you to ask! As many of you have noticed, Dustin and I are very tired. We have been sitting on this new space, unable to do anything, for almost six months. We’re pushing through and everything is going to turn out alright, I know it, but at every bend we are encountering something exhausting. Thank you, all of you, for your continued support. Your questions and concerns and voices of reassurance throughout all of this have been lifesaving.

We love this place immensely, and we know you do too. Waystone Secundus/Primaris is going to be magnificent not because of the facilities or the location or the size, but because of all of us.

Thanks, friends.

Stefan
